A few days ago I posted this picture on Facebook.
I got a few comments asking about what kind of wrap it is and how to do this particular carry, so I’m going to try to answer all the questions in this post.
What kind of wrap is it?
I often get asked if my wrap is a Moby. It’s not. It’s a piece of jersey knit, 4.5 yards I believe. I bought it at Hobby Lobby. I wanted something somewhat stretchy and not thick or bulky. It gets rather miserably hot and sticky here in Arkansas. Something thick and bulky would only be comfortable about 2 months out of the year. Reason #2 I picked this fabric: I can’t sew to save my life. Jersey knit doesn’t have to be hemmed. When cut, the edges roll in a bit, but they do not fray. It was too wide, so I split it down the middle and now have two wraps in this lovely ocean blue color. I keep one in the house and one in my car.
Is this carry comfortable? Is it hard on your back?
Comfort is one of the main reasons I use a wrap. Wee Man is very wiggly and would prefer to dangle upside down by his feet as to sitting still in my arms most of the time. It’s not very comfortable to wrangle a wiggly baby while balancing a 10 lb. diaper bag on the other arm and an extra large Sonic cup in one hand. I needed some way to keep him a little more still and take some of the weight off my arm I find this carry to be one of the most comfortable. My little one is now 19 lbs and 28.5 inches tall. Please keep in mind though, posture and correct wrap positioning have a LOT to do with your comfort and your baby’s!

Things to remember for comfort:
Stand up straight! If you find yourself slouching or leaning to one side, check the tightness of the rails and the pocket. You may be shifting your weight to compensate for a leaning baby or loose straps.
Flatten the shoulder strap! If it is rolled up against your neck, it will put a lot of pressure on one area and be very uncomfortable.
Re-tie it! While this carry is convenient because you can slip the baby in and out without retying every time, remember – this fabric is stretchy. It will eventually work its way loose and need to be retied.
