Getting back to {a new} normal

This makes the second {or maybe third?} week in a row I’ve been able to take at least one naptime for me time. {happy dance}

I had honestly forgotten what it was like to sit with the windows open and read or write, enjoying a few minutes of quiet while all my wee ones napped snored and drooled. Three under three provided some new challenges for me, not to mention moving! With my first two being less than 14 months apart, it took me nearly 6 months to get any kind of routine down. I remember telling a friend when I went back to work, “I feel like I’m running backwards!” Working from home added to the chaos a bit too. There did finally come a day though, when I could get them out of the house in the morning, back home for naps, and cook a meal or two. Then I got pregnant again. ๐Ÿ™‚ I tried to mentally prep myself this time, reminding myself how it took 6 months to find a new normal the first time. Then we found out we would be moving with a newborn! Moving with three small kids is no small feat.

This time though, I was pleasantly surprised when that day came, and I had the house mostly picked up by2:30, the kids were sleeping, and supper was cooking in the Crockpot, and my little SK was only three months old! Really, there’s something magical about our third baby. She’s laid back {Well, when she isn’t demanding someone hold her.} and happy-go-lucky. She balances out the craziness of her brothers and is a bit easier on mommy than they were/are. I like to think I’m getting a bit better at organization/time management with each kid, but that’s probably not true. Dang it.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are still two boxes in my kitchen that need to be unpacked, and one that needs to be put in storage, but for the most part we are finally done with that daunting task.

Catching up…

Well, I apologize for being gone for so long (again). Things have been crazy around here with the arrival of our newest zoo member!

On November 5, Miss Sylvia-Kate arrived into our home! She arrived with a hurricane (literally & figuratively) of drama. She is the sweetest little girl, and the entire family (even her brothers!!) loves her to bits! More on her later. She will get an entire post to herself. ๐Ÿ™‚

But in the last week….

  • I discovered Lincoln naked and covered in gray/green eye shadow in my bathroom.
  • Stanton poured halfย  a container of formula in the floor…twice. Good thing that stuff is cheap! (not)
  • We put our Christmas tree up. Yay!
  • I killed the lights on the tree.
  • Steven fixed the lights – and instructed me to buy a new tree after Christmas.
  • We bought a new (to us) car.
  • My mommy brain has gone to a whole new level. (The level where you wear a bra inside out for an entire day without realizing it and you lay a sweater out on the patio to dry – and leave it there…to be rained on the next day.)
  • Stanton is still trying to potty train himself.
  • The boys emptied a 130+ box of diapers all over their room more times than I care to count.
  • The boys emptied the boxes of baby clothes stored in their closet more times than I care to count.
  • Sylvia-Kate rolled over (tummy to back) for the first time today! She’s only 4 weeks old.
  • I kissed 2,621* (sibling-inflicted) boo-boos.
  • I gave 3,322* hugs.
  • I slept 7* hours.
  • I threatened to put the kids in daycare only once. ๐Ÿ™‚

6 weeks (#3!)

It is incredibly hard to believe that I am already writing this again.ย  In less than 40 weeks, we will be a family of five. I will again be sleep-deprived, overly-emotional, changing about 20 diapers a day (assuming we get the oldest potty trained by then!), and staring into the face of a third little blessing. I will be kissing little tiny fingers and toes and breathing in that wonderful fresh baby scent that only newborns have, from the top ofย  a tiny little round head.

How far along? 6 weeks, 2 days
Total weight gain/loss: 0
Maternity clothes? nope
Stretch marks? now that would be scary at this point
Sleep: I sleep all night, and then want to sleep all morning too. ๐Ÿ™‚
Best moment this week: Sharing the news with our friends and family!
Movement: none
Food cravings: all things chicken
Gender: unknown
Labor Signs: nope
Belly Button in or out? still in
What I miss: caffeine!
What I am looking forward to: Our first doctor appointment
Weekly Wisdom: Don’t lie down on the couch with a toddler and drift off to sleep without making sure the toddler is asleep first. You will wake up to a destroyed living room.
Milestones: I made it a whole day without snapping like a crazy woman at anyone.
Other Pregnancy Symptoms: My psycho mood swings probably make my husband want to slap me.
Other memorable moments: Tonight on the way home, it was late and Lincoln was about to fall asleep in the car. He said, “I love you Mommy.” before he went to sleep though.

the icing on the cake

{This post was written a week ago, but I’m just now making it visible.}

When I chose joy as my word for this year, I had no idea how much joy God had in store for me. My boys are 2 and 1 now, and they truly are a joy. So often people look at me with pity in their eyes, but they don’t know just how much fun those two rotten boys are. Even today, refusing to nap (and mommy desperately needing a nap!), I can hear them in their room, laughing and talking to one another.

Children are a heritage from the LORD,
offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in oneโ€™s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.
Psalm 127:3-5 (NIV)
Sunday evening our church had a baby dedication ceremony for 17 little ones, and our youngest was one of those. I was very excited going into the evening, as it was a different type of event than the tradition baby dedication ceremony. We were given homework to do prior to the event, and that night we got to share with our family our hopes and dreams for our sweet little boy. We were also informed that we only have 880 weekends until he turns 18.ย  That definitely put into perspective how short our time is with our children and the importance of parenting intentionally every single day. It also made me very thankful for the moments throughout the weekend I had stopped just to enjoy watching my little boys be little boys.
Moments like this one.
That’s The Boy, over 150 yards from our house, headed out on an adventure with a plastic hard hat on his little head and a screwdriver in his hand. He was completely unafraid and curious about whatever was ahead of him. (That’s also my husband and the goat headed out to get him because he refused to come back to the house when it was time to leave. ๐Ÿ™‚
And later that evening the icing on the cake came…..
in the form of a little blue plus sign….
Yes, that’s right. Baby #3 will be arriving at our house at the end of October! Of course, most of you will already know that by the time this is posted.

Sleep: It’s great, until about 4 a.m.
Best moment this week: Stanton’s wonderful baby dedication ceremony and finding out #3 will be arriving this Fall!

Food cravings: Ranch dressing! On carrots, potato chips, celery….

Weekly Wisdom: If it is going to get done,ย ย  I have to do it before 2 pm. I lose all energy and motivation then.
Milestones: I’ve made it almost a day without telling anyone. The husband didn’t do so well in that area. ๐Ÿ™‚
Other Pregnancy Symptoms: My sense of smell has gone crazy. I tried to get a drink of water this morning, but I kept smelling fishy water in the glass.
Other memorable moments:
My sweet husband was so excited that he couldn’t keep it to himself. He told all the guys at work today.
