Our First Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday marked our first wedding anniversary and Steven’s 25th birthday! Woohoo!

After church, we went out to eat with my parents, Whitney, and Adam. Then we went back to my parents’ house to cut our cake. For some reason, my computer decided not to rotate most of my photos when they were uploaded, and blogger doesn’t give you that option, SO these are the only ones I’m posting here. I’m just too lazy to mess with it. The others are posted and rotated on Facebook though. Hint: there was a bit of cake smashing present….and drink pouring…

Jennica’s Wedding

Another overdue post…

One of my longtime best friends got married last month. Jennica and Kris tied the knot at Harding University in Searcy. It was beautiful! Thankfully, I got the chance to go down the night before with Lauren, Jessica, and Allison to hang out with Jenn and some of her Harding friends before the big day. We had a lot of fun hanging out, eating (of course!) and watching a bunch of goofy youtube videos.
The next morning, our pal Brent came into town a bit early, so we (Lauren, Jessica, and myself) kidnapped him for some shopping and lunch before the wedding.
After the wedding, Steven and I went out to eat with Mom & Dad before heading home.

The Groom’s Cake…
this is the cake I got to destroy…er, um, serve 🙂

Pretty flowers…

Lauren, Allison, Jennica, me, and Jessica….

Day #170: My Hero!

I have been meaning to post this story and these photos for a while, but I kept forgetting. Every time I would remember, I couldn’t find the photos!

On the way home from our honeymoon in Nashville, I pulled some lotion out of my purse to put on my hands. I looked down and thought, “I just had my engagement ring cleaned. I’ll take my rings off.” Well, I should have known that was a dumb idea. Just as I slid my wedding band off, I dropped both rings. My engagement ring landed in the seat next to me, so I slipped it back on and went searching in the floor for my wedding band. I couldn’t find it!

At first it wasn’t a big deal. It was obviously in the Trailblazer somewhere. I dug around between the seat and the console and in the floor under my feet for a while, but still couldn’t find it. Steven started teasing me that, “we hadn’t been married a week and you’ve already lost the ring.” Yeah, not the thing to say. I started crying, and I know it made him feel horrible. He pulled off the interstate at Marion and assured me we would find it. I had stopped crying at this point, and got out to help him look under the seats for it. Still no luck. I was really starting to panic now. We got back on the road, and he promised me that worst case scenario, he’d go buy me another one as soon as his next paycheck came. Well, then I just started crying again. I didn’t want a new one; I wanted that one. (I’m pretty sure at this point, my husband was beginning to wonder what kind of crybaby/nut-case he had married.) When we finally made it home, I started unloading our luggage while Steven tore the car apart to try to find my ring.

Half an hour later, I walked outside to see this…

He had to take the console completely apart, remove the passenger seat, and pull the carpet back to find my ring! Somehow it had made its way under the carpet under my seat to the middle of the floorboard beneath my feet! I was so happy to have it back I squealed, hugged Steven, and cried for second more. I told him that he was officially “My Hero for Life!”

Our Wedding!

I was partially right when I said nothing would go wrong that day because it already had. Nothing went terribly wrong for Steven and I, but I’m pretty sure everyone helping with our day didn’t have much fun. It probably doesn’t help that I think all the stuff that went wrong is incredibly funny.

First, we got to the reception site Thursday evening to decorate, only to be told that we couldn’t. After my mom showed up, they seemed to remember our deal about giving us a key.
Later we found out the place had issues with mice! The ovens didn’t work too well either. One of our dishes cooked at 500 degrees for over 4 hours and wasn’t burned at all! Actually it was just done. Thankfully, they were able to take the dishes to someone’s house in Trumann to finish cooking. The electricity kept going out on them in the kitchen, too.
Also, Justin’s plane broke down, so he had to drive in from Little Rock. That made him late to come take the picture for Courtney to put on our cake. He then had to take it to Wal-Mart to be developed only to discover their machine wasn’t working, and apparently getting customer service in Wal-Mart at Trumann isn’t easy.
It did rain, but it held off until we were walking into the bed & breakfast that night. The next day we had a rainy drive to Nashville. The hotel there was great. I would definitely recommend Hotel Preston. However, our floor was a “scratch & sniff” according to Steven. Everyday it had a different smell – everything from coffee to cleaning products to unidentifiable food smells, Chinese maybe? Also, assorted whiskey glasses and coffee pots could be found in the hallway, outside other rooms. I thought they were from room service, but Steven thinks they were statues because the cleaning people didn’t take them away very quickly.
We went to the Nashville zoo one day. That was a lot of fun. We were the only people there for the first hour and a half. They have an AWESOME playground there.
