Mr. FedEx delivered my new toy on Monday!

No, I didn’t get another animal.

I got a spiffy new lens and lens hood! Love them.

Minnie Pearl goes to the vet

I just pulled out my little point and shoot camera and found this picture on it. Minnie is always such a good girl at the vet’s office. I took this as they were weighing her. Emerald always walks around on the scale, but Minnie follows commands a little better, so all we have to say is, “Sit,” and they can get an accurate reading.

I just love the way she smiles!

My little troublemaker

Tonight I started painting my cabinets. After getting all the doors to the top cabinets painted, the pantry door, the sides, and some of the trim done, I decided to call it a night. I walked into the living room to grab my camera for a few in-process pictures of the kitchen. When I returned to the kitchen, this is what I found…

Apparently when Steven took the baskets off the pantry door, he just laid them on the floor of the pantry. One of those baskets just happened to contain doggie treats. Emerald attempted to help herself to the treats, and got covered in paint in the process.

Thirteen Thursday

I’ve been pretty lazy with my blogging lately. Actually, I’ve been pretty lazy overall, but that’s another story. In an attempt to actually accomplish something tonight, here is a 13 Thursday list of random pictures form my computer.

1. This is why Steven has no room to sleep when he comes home. All week long, Minnie has believed this was her spot, and then she’s expected to give it up?

2. Roush should be a model. He loves to have his picture taken. It’s a very strange thing for a cat to enjoy.

3. Roush also likes to sleep in very cute positions.

4. Occasionally, I can no longer stand throwing a nasty, slimy dog toy. Mr. Squeaky got a bath recently.

5. Steven’s latest toy:

6. I bet your grandma didn’t get vodka for Christmas! haha, ok it’s hairspray for her to use at work…and I think that box came from the beauty supply store. Why would they have a vodka box?

7. Christmas or a birthday party? Both actually. My cousin, Casey, was born on Christmas day of 1987 – 9 months and 6 days after me.

8. Sometimes on long trips, my husband does scary stuff to make me laugh.

9. Steven rarely finds a book interesting enough to read.
Emerald rarely chooses to sit in his lap.

10. He sure is cute when he sleeps, but I’m rarely awake before him.

11. Every family needs a sweet little cocker spaniel.

12. I love this picture. Taken about a month ago at 10 a.m. using available light.

13. This is my favorite picture of Biscuit of all time.

Mr. Squeaky

This is Mr. Squeaky. He is Emerald’s favorite toy. He is also, somehow, the only toy that has survived her abuse. We have searched every pet aisle we come across for a toy that is Emerald-proof. So far, he is our only survivor, and guess what. He was bought when Emerald was less than 2 months old and cost a whopping 97 cents. We have spent as much as $5.00 on a dog toy, just for her to eat it in less than 10 minutes. I do mean “eat,” too. As in, she tears a hole in it, then picks it apart piece-by-piece and eats it. She sure does love Mr. Squeaky though.

Minnie Pearl uses Emerald’s love for Mr. Squeaky to her advantage. A few weeks ago, Emerald weaseled her way between me and Minnie in the bed. This irritated Minnie, so Ms. Minnie Pearl jumped off the bed, found Mr. Squeaky, squeaked him once to get Emerald’s attention and waited. Of course Emerald was quick to jump off the bed to steal her beloved Mr. Squeaky back from Minnie. This was exactly what Minnie was counting on. She jumped back up in her spot next to me while Emerald was distracted with chewing on Mr. Squeaky. Emerald never caught on. She isn’t always the brightest.

Christmas 2008

Although Christmas isn’t technically over for us (one more to go!), I thought I’d go ahead and get a post up of Christmas so far.

Our Christmas started on December 23, when Steven and I exchanged our gifts. Usually I am opposed to opening gifts any earlier than the 24th, but Steven just gets too excited! Good thing he waited until the 23rd to buy my gift or we would have been having Christmas in November!

Christmas is an odd holiday for us. With our anniversary and Steven’s birthday only two weeks before, sometimes there isn’t much left to ask for! Some years we both get big stuff at the same time, some years both small stuff at the same time, some years it is a mix-and-match. This year I got my big gifts (iPhone and our Snowball trip) for our anniversary, and Steven got small stuff for his birthday and our anniversary.

For Christmas, he got his big gift. Steven got a paintball gun and accessories. He said he didn’t think I had gotten it because I told him I only spent $50. Which was true…somewhat. That’s all I spent from our checking account! 🙂 He didn’t know I’d been hiding money from my photography work. He seems pretty happy with it. The pile of wood waiting to be burned in our backyard was yellow by noon the next day.

I got the Wii Music game, which is a lot of fun! We spent Tuesday night playing it. You can play 1+ player games or you can create a 1+ player “jam session.” Our first creation was a video of Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star featuring my Mii playing banjo with Steven’s Mii playing tuba. It was pretty funny.

We also gave Emerald and Minnie Pearl their gifts. Roush was nowhere to be found at the time. Apparently the girls had irritated him enough that he retreated into hiding all night. Minnie and Emerald enjoyed their stockings full of toys though…for about 24 hours that is. Emerald managed to chew a hole in and eat a portion of all of them by the next afternoon! Good thing they came from the dollar aisle at Target!

Wednesday we spent the day at our house. We cooked breakfast together, watched a movie, tried out Steven’s paintball gun, and were just genuinely lazy. Wednesday night, we went to my parents’ house to exchange gifts with them and my sister and her husband. We also brought Emerald and Minnie Pearl so my mom and dad could give them more presents. My parents got each of the animals (our 4 dogs and 1 cat and my sisters 2 dogs and cat) a goody bag filled with treats and toys. Each of the dogs got a new tennis ball, and so far Emerald hasn’t destroyed them. Steven says Mom is “hinting.” While that may be a bit true, my sister and I also agree that she really wants another dog. We give them a year before they have another one, probably another little cocker spaniel.

Emerald and Sage, trying to get into Biscuit’s and Poncho’s gifts.

Minnie Pearl is such a cuddly dog. She insisted on lying in the floor next to Steven, patting him on the face and snuggling with him.

Thursday morning we got up about 7 and headed to Pine Tree for the annual breakfast feast at Big’s (my mom’s mom) house. The second photo below is of the table cloth. Big has had this table cloth for years. I’m not sure exactly when the first time it was used was, but I know I’ve seen signatures from the late 70’s on it. Every Christmas, everyone in attendance has to sign and date it.

That’s all for now. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the Andersons!

UPDATE: Please note that our Christmas card this year was a collage of images of my attempts to get good Christmas photos of our five pets. We do not have 20+ animals, even though it may seem like it at times.

Also, I need to mention that the names on the card are not in order of the last row of photos. Oops! L-R they are, Biscuit, Emerald, Roush, Minnie Pearl, and Poncho.

What’s one more?

Last night Steven decided to play around on the internet for a few minutes. When he “woke up” the computer, the window to my blog was on the screen. Normally, he just closes it and goes about his business. This time he didn’t though. He stared at my header, as if something was wrong with it. Then he said the words that I knew would come out of his mouth, “Aww, you don’t have Poncho on there.” He was very accusing, as if I intentionally left that poor, stray dog out of the family line up. Ok, maybe I did.

I admit it. I purposely left him off. I was hoping he might just decide he didn’t like our house and leave. Maybe Poncho and Biscuit wouldn’t get along? No chance of that, Biscuit wouldn’t care if we had 10 other dogs. But wait, what if someone came along and claimed him? Yes I know, everyone wants a skinny dog that is incredibly lazy and doesn’t know the meaning of ‘sit,’ ‘stay,’ or ‘down’.

You are probably thinking,”Who is Poncho?” or “Did they really get another animal?!”

Yes, we have expanded our family once again. Poncho is an awkward yellow lab/hound dog that appeared at our house almost two months ago. I really didn’t think he’d stick around, and I had no intention of allowing him to. My husband, however, insisted we feed him, “Until he leaves.” Yeah, Steven – he’s gonna just walk off after we feed him. Well, two months later he is still here. A few weeks ago Steven mentioned getting rid of him once he fattened up, but that plan collapsed too. He decided Biscuit needed a friend. Biscuit does seem to like him, and in all honesty, we’ve become a bit attached too.

Without further ado, meet Poncho!

I’m so proud!

Today, Emerald got her hair cut. She cried for a bit when I dropped her off, so I was a bit concerned. She is usually a major drama queen and very naughty for Weslynn, our groomer. Not today, though! She got 4 paws on her report card! Weslynn said, “She was a bit nervous about having her feet combed and trimmed, but she didn’t act up or anything.” I’m so proud of her! This is a huge improvement. She usually only gets two paws on her report card.

Another little project

After church tonight, I finished cleaning the house and discovered I had an extra couple of hours until my guests arrive. Two hours with nothing to do? Hmmm….

This is what I made:
